11 salaries are expressed in Hong Kong dollars, calculated at the rate of to the £ sterling.
Basic salary of $640 a month for 2 years. Then $720 a month rising to $1000 a month by 7 annual increments of 40 a month. Then $1080 a month rising to $1300 a month by 4 annual increments of $60 a month. There is a strict efficiency bar between $960 and $1000 a month.

admissiblo for an officer whose home is not normally in the Colony. This is approximately 20% of basic salary and on the minimum of the scalc amounts to g $166.67 a month.

temporary, variable and non-pensionable cost of living allowance is also payable. a married office: with a child or children on the minimum of the scale, this amounts at present to g
370 a month. For married officer without children 80% of the standard allovenco is payable. For an unmarried officer 60% of the allowance is payablo. cost of living allowance is payable only while the officer is resident in the Colony.

If available, government quarters are provided and a rout of not more than one seventh of basic sal ry is deducted.
Class passages are provided in accordance with Colonial Regulation 81. An officer may be required to travel by air when on duty, or when proccoding to or from lesvc. The normal tour is 4 years, but for an officer with 20 years colonial service and over the age of 45, the tour is 3 years.
The normal leave rate is one day for every seven days resident service, but fr an officer with 20 years colonial servic, and over the age of 45, the leave rate is 2 days for every 11 days resident service. Local leave is also granted.
The officer is a probation for 3 years
after which, if his scrvices are satisfactory he may be confirmed to the permanent and pen- sionable establishment,
